Merida on Sunday

Merida is known as the “white Capital” for its buildings and clothing; It is also distinguished by being quiet and friendly population. It is located in southeastern Mexico and borders the state of Campeche and Quintana Roo State. It was founded on January 6, 1542 on the ruins of the Mayan city called T’Ho. It is a city with lots of culture and thanks to that in 2000 the city was named American Capital of Culture was the first city to receive this honor.

For several years every Sunday, Merida offers an unforgettable cultural evening called Merida on Sunday, where are held cultural performances and music, traditional Yucatecan dancing revelry, among others folk dancing, two orchestras liven up the night rate son, salsa and cumbia; craft stalls and food typical of the state to the delight of visitors are also set.

Sunday Merida is set on the streets of the historic center of the city on the main square, 60th Street and Hidalgo and mother parks and Saint Lucia in the corner. The streets are closed for the tranquility of its visitors, from which starts the celebration of 9 am to 9 pm.
